About Dr Faraaz de Belder
Dr Faraaz de Belder is a specialist anaesthetist committed to delivering safe, high-quality, evidence-based care. He combines modern anaesthetic practice with a patient-centred approach, ensuring every individual receives personalised care and clear communication throughout their treatment.
Dr de Belder is one of a small number of doctors in Australia who holds specialist Fellowships in both Anaesthesia (FANZCA) and General Practice (FRACGP), alongside extensive training in retrieval and aeromedical medicine. This combination of qualifications means he brings a broad clinical perspective to every patient he treats — understanding not just the anaesthetic requirements of a procedure, but the full medical context of the person undergoing it.
Philosophy of Care
Dr de Belder believes exceptional healthcare begins with listening. Drawing on his background in both General Practice and Anaesthesia, he takes a broad view of each patient's health, recognising that every individual brings different needs, concerns, and circumstances to their care.
He works closely with patients, surgeons, and healthcare teams to deliver safe, compassionate anaesthetic care, with a focus on keeping patients informed and comfortable at every stage of their treatment.
"Anaesthesia can be a source of anxiety for many patients," Dr de Belder says. "My goal is to explain clearly what will happen and why, so patients understand their care and feel more in control."
Training & Background
Dr de Belder graduated from the University of London in 2012, achieving two Distinctions, four Merits, and a Prize for Academic Excellence.
His medical career began in General Practice in the United Kingdom, where he completed specialist GP training and gained broad experience in patient care across all stages of life.
He then moved to Queensland to continue working as a GP. It was here that an interest in acute and emergency medicine led him to gain further experience in the field, and subsequently to fly as a retrieval doctor with LifeFlight and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. During this period he completed over 500 critical care taskings across helicopter and fixed-wing platforms, delivering hospital-level care to patients across regional and remote Queensland.
This experience deepened his interest in critical care medicine and led him to pursue specialist training in Anaesthesia through the Queensland training program. He developed expertise in perioperative medicine, patient safety, and modern anaesthetic techniques across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast's major teaching hospitals.
Outside of his clinical work, Dr de Belder holds a Senior Lecturer appointment at Griffith University, where he teaches medical students and supervises junior doctors.
